“The Magic of New Beginnings” by Sr. Kimberly Porter

“And suddenly you know: its time to start something new and trust the magic of new beginnings.” These words of Mister Eckert ring true in my experience of trying new things in recent months. I am 9 months into a new job which has been filled with a learning curve, new opportunities and so many wonderful people who I feel blessed to have encountered. The newness awakens my senses as I navigate all that comes with starting a new job.

Some beginnings for me are a re-starting of something familiar. I recently began (again) to engage in different types of exercises. I have found moments of awkwardness, strength, and a growing trust in what my body is capable of doing (or at least is attempting). Learning something new brings humility yet it also brings possibility. I have found support in teachers who provide guidance and helpful feedback. They challenge me to be curious and willing to explore. They are helping me to find the “magic” in this new beginning of something familiar.

Each day we are invited by God to see something new in God’s work in our lives. We are surrounded by God’s “magic” at work both within and around us. There are daily small invitations that lead us to learn, to love and embody Christ here on earth. May we hear God’s whisper inviting us to leave the familiar to start something new. May we give ourselves grace in our staring and re-starting. May we encounter the eyes and hands of Christ in the wise ones among us who support us in learning to trust the magic of new beginnings.
